Adding on from 5

I am learning to keep 5 in my head and add on.  This game is called Murtle Turtle and it reminds me to count on from a number.

Reading Eggs

I am learning to sound out 3 letter words by saying all the sounds and blending them together.  Reading Eggs helps me to reinforce my learning.

" I can put the letters in the correct box in the activity on Reading Eggs." said Chloe

Acrostic poem

I am learning how to write an acrostic poem.  I know that I start each sentence with a letter of the subject.  I wrote about myself. 

"I think my writing is beautiful and neat. I don't do race car writing now. It is tricky to do c and k words, because they sound the same but have different letters."

Bird pillow

For our Art Exhibition this year we learnt how to sketch a bird.  The final drawing was transferred onto calico and dye was added.  The bird was glued onto a pillow that Mrs Scott and Mrs Worsfold had sewn.  Don't they look great!

I am learning to sound out 3 letter words.

I am learning to say the first, middle and last sound in a word and then blend the sounds together to write the word.  This can help me in my reading and my writing.

I am learning to write number sentences to 10 and use this knowledge, when I play games, to solve problems in my head.

"I can add numbers together.  I can take away numbers too." said Chloe.

I am learning to make the beginning and end sounds

I am learning to make the beginning and end sounds in unknown words.  I need to get my mouth ready to make the sound and this activity helps me remember.

"I can sound out the words.  I am super clever." said Chloe

We are learning to write for an audience and publish quality work to share.

Chloe said, " I like to read with my buddy because my buddy helps me with my writing and reading."

I am learning to make patterns to 5

Chloe, you are able to recognise patterns to 5 using concrete materials.  We are now going to work on instantly recalling these patterns to 5.

"I can make the pattern to 5 and now we are learning to count to 100 on our whiteboards."said Chloe

Elm Park 50th Birthday Party!

We launched our Celebration Inquiry with a huge party for Elm Park School. This year our school will turn 50! We had a great day with our school friends and our whanau.

Chloe said, "We had a really big party and my Mum came to it. We made party hats with letters. She helped all the children make the cookies. She came on the treasure hunt and it was so much fun."

I am learning to form my numerals correctly.

I am learning to write my numbers around the right way.  I am able to write up to 11 correctly, but I need to remember my 4 goes the other way around.

Chloe said," I am good at doing all my numbers."

I am learning to make the first sound in new words.

I am learning to get my mouth ready for the first sound. I can make the sound now that I know my alphabet sounds.

Chloe said, " I am reading with Mrs Scott and I am pointing at words. I think it is lovely doing reading."

I am learning water skills.

I am learning to enter and exit the pool safely.

I am learning to glide on my front with a flutter board.

I am learning to float on my back with and without a board.

I am learning to manage myself and get changed independently.

The whole class got a lot quicker at getting ready!

I am learning to draw a picture that matches my story.

I am learning to use beginning sounds when I write my words.
